The American Style, comprising of Rhythm and Smooth dances (Cha-Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, Mambo, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz), was originally built on less formal and more social dancing principals. However, modern American Style can be highly competitive and is becoming more and more widespread. Predominantly danced in North America, the style is not as structured as International but is slowly developing it’s own principals of movement and styling.
American style Smooth allows open hold and includes side-by-side work as well as fluid body movement. Rhythm style, as suggested my the name, focuses on developing rhythm in the body and expressing the music.
